IDCL, was founded in 1972 then known as National Drug Company (NDC) owned by the Government of Zambia. On 19th March 1999, it was acquired and the name changed to International Drug Company Ltd (IDCL). The warehouse and units are strategically located in the heart of Lusaka’s city centre, an ideal location for wholesale business and in terms of ease of accessibility.
Its main mission is to distribute & manufacture a wide range of products with quality at affordable prices to the local market as well as international markets. Apart from its uncompromising mission to provide quality products to maintain the health of our people, the company through efficient operations realizes profits to satisfy the shareholders as well as plough back towards further investments.
Since its very inception, Quality control & Quality Assurance has been the top priority of our operations. IDCL is always committed to produce & supply high quality standard products. Whether it is storage of raw material, transfer of these materials, manufacturing, packaging or final storage of the finished goods, we have strict systems for maintaining the QUALITY of the products at all times.

Chairman's Message
International Drug Company Limited is an ex parastatal company, formerly known as National Drug Company, which was taken over in March 1999. This year we have clocked 21 years. Since the acquisition, we have been manufacturing and importing various pharmaceutical products, and are the sole manufacturers of Intravenous fluids in the country.
With our manufacturing unit in Lusaka and the sterile plant in Kabwe and the support of our dedicated and loyal team of highly qualified experts, we are proud to say that today we are manufacturing 40 different pharmaceutical products.
We are also one of the leading importer and distributor of pharmaceutical, surgical, veterinary products in the country and employ about 250 people.
Our major client base includes the Ministry of Health, University Teaching Hospital, Government Health Institution, NGO’s, Mission Hospitals, Health Centres, Private Hospitals and Surgeries, Chemists, Pharmaceutical Wholesalers. We have around 300 satisfied customers across the country, who are regularly distributed quality products using our owned fleet of delivery vehicles.
IDCL represents around 40 companies across the globe from countries like India, Kenya, China, Europe and covers a wide range of products in the health centre which includes hospital equipment, diagnostics, medical systems and veterinary products.
IDCL has modernized and upgraded its infrastructure to keep in sync with cGMP norms and the directives by Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority.
We strive to continually improve services and maintain our slogan which is ‘Contributing to a healthy nation’. We have embarked on our new product development & intend to double our product range in a few years.
